Dog sledding in Les Carroz d'Arâches: where to go and how to book

Some activities mark a holiday more than any ski run ever could. Dog sledding is one of them: the hush of the team gliding over the snow, the huskies pulling as a pack, the children captivated by the dogs' blue eyes. In Les Carroz d'Arâches, several professional mushers run outings all winter — and the slots, few in number, go fast. Worth sorting out now, before the ski area opens on 12 December 2026.

Where to go in Les Carroz

Most outings leave from the Les Molliets area, a few minutes from the resort, on a snowy plateau ideal for driving a team. Three well-known operators work there depending on the season:

• Huskydalen — mushers Christophe and Elisabeth Guillaud-Brèches, based between Les Carroz, Flaine and Chamonix, offer a driving initiation after a 10–15 minute briefing, then hands-on time with the team. It's the name most often quoted by the Les Carroz tourist office.
• Evasion Nordique 74 — musher Philippe Van Compernolle has each participant drive a team of three or four Siberian huskies, at the Les Carroz and Flaine sites. A kennel visit is possible to understand life in the pack.
• Antarctic Road — rides from the Chalet des Molliets in Les Carroz, led by musher Luc Saillard, with sunset slots and the option of a stop at a mountain restaurant.

Passenger ride or real driving?

Two formats exist, and it's best to choose before booking. The passenger ride tucks young and old into the sled, wrapped up warm, while the musher drives: ideal with small children, and usually the shortest option. The driving initiation puts you at the controls after a briefing — you learn to brake, manage the team and help the sled through the climbs. Allow around an hour once you factor in harnessing, instructions and the ride itself.

On budget, expect an order of magnitude of €200–220 for a family (two adults, two children) on an initiation, less for a simple passenger ride. Our tips for a smooth outing

• Book early. Packs are small and slots limited: during school holidays, aim for several days ahead, or before you even arrive.
• Dress warm. You often stand still during the briefing: gloves, hat, waterproof boots and one more layer than for skiing.
• Aim for morning or late afternoon. The dogs run better in the cold, and the low light is superb for photos.
• Respect the dogs. They are athletes: approach calmly, follow the musher's instructions and don't feed them.
