Mountain biking the Grand Massif: the Les Carroz Bike Park

When the snow melts, the Grand Massif doesn't fall asleep — it swaps skis for mountain bikes. From Les Carroz d'Arâches, the Bike Park and its downhill trails await all summer, just minutes from Lodge Le Chamois. Here's our guide to riding smart, from beginner to seasoned rider.

A Bike Park for every level

The Les Carroz Bike Park, approved by the French Cycling Federation (FFC), offers 7 downhill trails and more than 14 km of tracks between 1,140 and 1,760 m of altitude. Every level is covered, from green to black: the green Woody Woodbiker run to ease in gently, more committing blues and reds, and the double-black Les Carroz Airline reserved for expert riders. A pumptrack, a North Shore zone, flow trails and a kids' area round out the playground.

Open all summer, safely

The Bike Park is open every day from 20 June to 6 September 2026, 9 am to 5 pm. A bike patrol team keeps an eye on the trails daily. On site you'll find free parking, a self-service eco-friendly bike wash, picnic tables and footpaths for companions who'd rather walk. Bike Park passes can be bought by the day at the lift ticket offices or online.

Far more than downhill

Beyond the Bike Park, the Grand Massif unrolls more than 200 km of mountain-bike trails linking Les Carroz, Flaine, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt: plenty for cross-country loops and enduro riding facing Mont Blanc. Whether you like to earn your descents under pedal power or shuttle up on the lifts, there's a line for you. Families will also enjoy the rail luge and its 600 m descent through the forest, plus a swim at the Aquacîme on hot days.

Our tips for a first outing

• The right bike: hire a full-suspension bike (or an e-MTB for enduro) from one of the resort's shops, and don't forget protection — a full-face helmet and back protector on the Bike Park.
• Build confidence: start on the green Woody Woodbiker to find your feet before tackling the reds.
• Plan your break: water and a snack in the bag; the picnic tables at the foot of the trails are perfect for lunch.
• Watch the sky: in the mountains, summer storms roll in quickly in the early afternoon.

The Lodge, the ideal base camp for riders

Lodge Le Chamois makes the perfect base camp. The heated, secure locker on the ground floor stores your bikes under cover, and the private covered parking (with Green'Up charging) protects the car and bike rack. After a day of descents, head to the 45 m² south-facing terrace: barbecue, fire pit and, as an option, the wooden Nordic bath to soothe tired muscles facing the pines. The lifts up to the Bike Park are only minutes away.
